Monday 2 July 2007

Suspected poultry meat recently found in the United Kingdom with too high water content does not come originally from the Netherlands, according to the Dutch trade union of poultry holders (NVP). The meat has been imported from Brazil by a Dutch company, which has treated and sold it to United Kingdom. As a result, the meat seems to originate from the Netherlands, an issue the NVP opposes strongly.

The NVP wants the country of origin to be stated on the label, in order to prevent that meat gets attributed to another country. It has already been brought to the attention of the ministry of LNV more than once to try and get this arranged in Europe. In the mean time the NVP emphasises the legislation stating that nothing can be added to the meat without indication on the label.
