Ukraine Retail Chains on the Rise
Monday 12 March 2007
Ukraine is one of the largest retail markets in Europe with 47 million people, and it continues to develop quickly. Overall economic growth and an increase in disposable incomes fueled growth in this sector. Food product sales reached $7.7 billion in 2005. Western products can be successful in some niche markets in Ukraine: high-value, premium-class products (high-quality
meat products, expensive seafood, alcoholic beverages), low-priced specialty food products (special infant
dairy food, diabetic foods), inexpensive food for young people associated with a “Western” lifestyle (muesli,
popcorn, instant beverages), semi-prepared products and components for preparing ethnic dishes, and microwaveable products.
