Modified starch manufactureNative starch properties can be changed in a directed way by chemical or physical modification. Enzymatic methods can also be used.
In the dry chemical process, the starch slurry is dewatered and dried prior to chemical reaction. Chemicals added can either be dry or wet and a final drying may therefore be necessary. In the wet process, the starch slurry, or the re-slurried native starch, is directly fed into the reactor with chemicals and the reaction takes place in liquid form. Aquous and organic solvents both can be used. The resulting slurry can be washed and/or dewatered prior to drying. The product is a chemically/physically treated or modified starch. Modified starch is used several industries such as food and paper industries.
