| The shift point is determined by means of an electric current which flows through a conductive liquid between the probe and the container wall. |
| To this end, an alternating voltage is applied between the probe and the container wall, or between two probes. When the conductive liquid reaches the probe tip(s), a small alternating current flows and triggers the shift function in the electronics. |
