Sustainable tray solution from Nicholl

Wednesday 1 September 2010

As part of its ongoing product diversification programme, Nicholl Food Packaging has been appointed European distributor of Oliver Pulp Trays, which have already been a huge success in the US market, combining sustainable benefits with several consumer convenience

The new trays are manufactured from 100% pre-consumed material, which is both recyclable and compostable by commercial recyclers, offering a 100% renewable resource solution for food trays. Manufactured to food grade standards, they are suitable for oven temperatures up to 204°C, can be microwaved, and are freezable to -40°C. Typical applications include fresh and frozen products, ready meals and convenience foods.

The polyester film lining provides a leak proof barrier for products containing liquids, and makes the trays suitable for MAP and CAP. In addition, the tray’s strong fibre design means they do not collapse during the cooking process, while the material offers superior heat retention and remains cool to touch when taken out of the oven or microwave. The attractive user-friendly designs also deliver easy peel opening.

The trays can be specified in white, cream or grey, with a clear or black film lining, and offer a choice of single or multi-compartment designs in varying depths, providing the flexibility to meet the needs of many different types of food products and applications.

“We believe the Oliver trays offer a real point of difference that will appeal to both manufacturers and consumers,” comments Nicholl Food Packaging’s Group Chief Executive John Griffiths.

“While their sustainability benefits are wholly relevant in today’s environmentallyconscious world, equally important these advantages have not been at the expense of consumer convenience, which remains a vital consideration in highly competitive markets.”
